Black Mold or Toxic Mold

When most people think of black mold they are typically referring to Stachybotrys Chartarum. With all the press "Stachy" received in the 90's and into the 2000's it's no wonder people have concerns about Black Mold.

However, there are other molds that can be black in color as well. Don't assume because you see black mold in your home or business that it is Stachybotrys. Don't let the color of the mold fool you, any mold growing in your home or business can be an allergen or irritant and is undesirable regardless of the color. It's very common to find multiple colors and types of mold growing simultaneously along side one another. The color of the mold is not the best indicator of the potential hazard level.
All mold should be treated with caution. Mold growing in your home or business should be cleaned or removed, bleach is no longer a recommended method to clean mold, but a simple detergent for non-porous surfaces such as plastic or metal. Porous surfaces such as drywall, carpet, padding and organic materials, etc. will often times require removal by a professional Mold Remediation Contractor familiar with specialized cleaning procedures and protocols to ensure all mold has been removed, that the source of water has been corrected, and the affected area has been returned to comparative outside mold levels.
